Now lets start to fix the hole in the drywall:
1. Using the carpenter square and a pencil or marker, draw a line at least an inch or more above and below the damaged area. Then draw lines along the left and right sides to center over the studs on either side of the hole.
2. Cut a patch from based on the pattern you draw in step 1. Drywall is made of a sheet of gypsum, covered on both sides with a layer of paper (a paper facing), that's why you can use keyhole saw or utility knife for this.
3. Next use the scrap lumber / plywood as support. insert it into the hole in the wall. Each end should extend equally underneath the surrounding wall. Screw these supports vertically behind the opening to keep the patch from cracking. Hold the support in place and secure it with drywall screws. Maintain pressure on the center of the board to keep it tight against the surrounding walls. Still holding onto the center of the board, fasten the other end of the anchor board to the wall.
4. Create patch using scrap of drywall and install it with drywall screws
5. Finish the patch. Smoothly apply the strips of self-adhesive fiberglass drywall tape around the installed patch; center the tape on the seams. Use a 6-inch drywall taping knife to spread drywall joint compound across the patch and tape to create a smooth, flat surface. Let the compound dry overnight, sand,
